The Central Library at a Glance

Although the foundation of the Central Library at the University of Tikrit coincided with the establishment of the university in 1987, its actual inception took place in 1989. At that time, its main location was affiliated with the provincial library, while its presence on the university campus was limited to a modest caravan that facilitated basic administrative tasks and coordination with the main branch in the provincial library.

This arrangement remained in place until 2004, when Professor Dr. Khalid Ismail assumed the role of Director, becoming the first Secretary-General of the Central Library at its new location within the university.

Since then, a number of dedicated directors have successively overseen the library’s administration, each contributing with commitment and vision to its growth and development.

Despite suffering significant destruction and damage during the years 2014–2015, the library was successfully restored through the tireless efforts of its administration and staff. Not only was it rehabilitated, but it was also enhanced to exceed its previous state in both infrastructure and service.

Today, continuous efforts are being made to further develop and modernize the library, with the aim of transforming it into one of the university’s most distinguished and valuable assets—both in appearance and in substance.

At the outset, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all patrons of the Central Library at the University of Tikrit. Our readers and beneficiaries—whether they are esteemed faculty members, dedicated researchers, or our dear students from within or outside the university—are always warmly received and highly valued.The existence of the Central Library within our university, and its ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive resources essential to scientific research—such as books, references, theses, dissertations, and more—alongside a suitable and supportive reading environment, is a clear reflection of our genuine desire to achieve academic excellence.The library serves as a vibrant hub that brings together researchers from various disciplines and provinces. Therefore, our entire team works collectively and tirelessly to support the advancement of scientific inquiry by offering both the appropriate scholarly materials and an atmosphere that encourages reading, learning, and intellectual engagement.Furthermore, the library is committed to organizing a wide range of scientific, cultural, educational, and awareness-raising workshops and seminars. These initiatives aim to benefit the university community specifically and the broader provincial and national communities more generally—addressing key topics based on priority and societal need.Looking ahead, we continue to strive toward integrating modern technologies that can significantly elevate the academic experience of our students—empowering them to compete effectively with their peers from leading international universities.Despite the severe damage and destruction sustained during the years 2014–2015, the library was successfully rebuilt and revitalized—thanks to the unwavering dedication of its administration and staff. It has not only been restored but has emerged stronger and more advanced than ever before.Today, efforts persist to further develop and enhance the library—both in terms of infrastructure and academic value—so that it may remain one of the university’s most treasured assets, distinguished in form, function, and intellectual contribution.
