Division Head: Nasir Jasim Ali
The User Services Division is responsible for providing services to undergraduate and postgraduate students at all levels, as well as to non-degree students. This division maintains direct contact with users, supplying the resources they require and managing library collections in both physical and electronic formats. Upon obtaining a library ID card, a student or researcher receives a record to select the desired book, including its sequence and unified registration number. The staff member then locates the book and loans it to the researcher for a duration of five days for undergraduate studies and seven days for postgraduate studies. Late returns are subject to fines.
The division consists of the following units:
- Interlibrary Loan Unit:
This unit manages the lending of books between the university’s faculty libraries and the Central Library. It documents the books in special registers, ensures their preservation, and organizes them on shelves for easy access by researchers, students, and faculty. Using automated cataloging systems, the unit facilitates efficient retrieval and rapid searching. The unit also issues loans to university affiliates, and for donated books, it issues a formal acknowledgment to the contributing institution. - Periodicals Unit:
This unit assists students, researchers, and faculty in accessing regularly published materials, including newspapers, academic journals, reports, and other serials. Publications are organized sequentially under a single title and numbered by issue, part, or volume, on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. Lending services are internal only. - Reference Unit:
Providing internal lending services, this unit plays a critical role in guiding and assisting readers and researchers. Staff help users navigate the reference collection, answer questions, and organize materials for efficient access. The library’s reference holdings include 5,468 titles covering diverse disciplines such as jurisprudence, theology, astronomy, biographies, and rare books, in addition to Arabic, English, and French journals donated by Iraqi, Western, and Islamic universities. - Audio-Visual Unit:
This modern unit provides students and researchers with access to various media formats, including video films, microfilms, slides, and discs. It also manages the necessary equipment for reviewing and studying these materials. - Special Collections Unit:
This unit manages rare and historically significant library collections. These materials cannot be loaned or removed from the library; researchers may only consult them on-site. Copying, marking, or writing on these materials is strictly prohibited to preserve their condition. - Printing and Reproduction Unit:
This unit reproduces all books, theses, and other information resources, including official publications from the University Presidency and ministerial books. It also handles the printing and duplication of administrative books issued internally within the library. - Information Unit:
Currently being activated, this unit is responsible for preparing the annual library guide, periodical indexes, bibliographies, and a directory of theses and dissertations received by the Central Library.
